Several hundred women walking together along the Isar.

This picture attracted attention in Munich over the weekend.

Clare Carrington knows what's behind the mass walks.

Munich – Bright blue skies, mild temperatures and the sound of the Isar.

On Sunday there were optimal conditions for walking.

Some Munich residents may have noticed an above-average group of women walking together along the Isar.

Clare Carrington knows what lies behind this walking community.

The 28-year-old tax consultant is the organizer of the walks, which take place under the name

Munich Girls Talking & Walking

.

The dates and starting points of the walks will be announced on the group's Instagram channel at the beginning of the month.

Registration is not required.

“The walks are by women for women,” Carrington explains in an Instagram post.

“Similar walks really helped me find dear friends”

Making friends and connecting in a new city is a challenge for many people.

Do you try it via an app?

Or do you just talk to people who seem likeable to you?

28-year-old Carrington also noticed that many women find it difficult to make new contacts in Munich.

She lived in the USA for some time, where she initially didn't know anyone.

“Similar walks really helped me find dear friends,” she explains to the editors.

The walks inspired her to start the project in Munich too.

She wants to give women the opportunity to meet new people and make friends.

“It was overwhelming”: huge crowds on the walks

The first walk took place on January 28th.

After starting on Frauenhoferstrasse in the Isarvorstadt, the women walked along the Isar for around 40 minutes.

The organizer's expectations - she expected a maximum of 20 participants - were far exceeded: around 200 women took part in the walk.

Videos on social media show the large crowds.

Carrington is touched on Instagram: “It was overwhelming and I hope everyone had a great time and met lots of new people.”

And the second walk on February 11th was also well received.

Despite the rainy weather, around 200 women again took part in the walk, this time through the English Garden.

Around 300 participants took part in a walk on Sunday

Last Sunday, February 25th, the third Munich Girls Talking & Walking

walk took

place.

This time around 300 women took part.

After the walk along the Isar, some participants who had previously registered for it went for brunch together.

“There were a lot of people there who were brand new to Munich and also some English speakers,” Carrington reports to our editorial team.

Many women were between 20 and 35 years old, but some were a little younger or a lot older.

A girl even came to Munich especially from Lenggries, a community near Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, for the walk.

Project is having an impact: some friendships have already been made

The project seems to be having an impact.

Some women have already met friends on walks with whom they regularly do things, Carrington explains to the editorial team.

This also applies to 28-year-old Elif Aybuke Narin.

She tells our editorial team that she is new in Munich and had a lot of fun on the walk: “It helped me get to know new people.”

The next walk will take place on March 3rd.

The Instagram page also informs that similar walks will soon be offered in Hamburg and Cologne.

The walking with strangers project seems to be bearing fruit.
