Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai and his wife Yael Huldai vote in the local elections, Tel Aviv polls, February 27, 2024/Reuven Castro
A resident of Beit Shemesh was arrested last night (Monday) on suspicion of offering money to citizens in exchange for voting for a candidate, and planning to falsify and disrupt the elections in the city.
The investigation was opened yesterday in the fraud unit of the police in the Jerusalem district, following a report about the suspect, a young man in his 20s, who offered bribes to voters on social media.
The investigation revealed that he offered a certain voter a payment of 200 shekels if he voted for a candidate, and in another case he offered one hundred shekels for each voter's ID card, with which he intended to vote while falsifying and disrupting the election process in the city.
Last night the police managed to track down the suspect and arrest him, and today he will be brought to the court to discuss the extension of his detention.
The police are continuing their investigation.
