US President Biden hopes that there will be a ceasefire in Gaza by Monday.

Israel is prepared to refrain from fighting during Ramadan in the event of a deal, he explains during a talk show visit.

New York - US President Joe Biden spoke on comedian Seth Meyers' talk show about a possible solution to the Gaza war.

“There is a path forward, with difficulties,” said Biden (81) in the broadcast recorded on Monday.

First and foremost, the Israeli hostages still held captive in Gaza must be released.

“There is also an agreement on the part of the Israelis that they would not undertake any activity during the (Muslim fasting month of) Ramadan to give us time to get all the hostages out,” Biden added.

In doing so, Biden ultimately repeated what the Israeli media recently reported about the negotiations between the mediators in the conflict.

Accordingly, Israel would be prepared to accept a ceasefire of around six weeks.

According to reports, this is provided for in a negotiating framework recently proposed in Paris by the mediating states Egypt, Qatar and the USA.

After recording the broadcast, Biden also expressed his hope for an imminent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas on Monday evening (local time).

“My national security adviser tells me we are close,” Biden said while eating ice cream in New York with Meyers.

We haven't reached our goal yet.

“I hope that we will have a ceasefire by next Monday.” The Muslim fasting month of Ramadan begins around March 10th.

However, it is uncertain whether international mediators will be able to negotiate an agreement on a new hostage exchange by then.

The media had previously reported that the difficult negotiations were not making progress.

Biden saw an early ceasefire - in connection with the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners - as an important step towards peace in the Middle East.

“I think if we get that - a temporary ceasefire, we will be able to move in a direction where we can change the dynamic,” Biden said.

You will then “not immediately have a two-state solution, but a process to achieve a two-state solution.” This means the establishment of an independent Palestinian state that exists peacefully side by side with Israel.

The US President rarely gives TV interviews.
