US President Biden will be confronted with pop singer Swift in a rare television appearance.

His answer is a dad joke.

New York – Television interviews with Joe Biden are rare.

But now he has given one.

The show “Late Night with Seth Meyers” was about the election campaign – and the moderator forced the US President to position himself towards a woman: Taylor Swift.

The pop singer

(281 million Insta followers as of February 27)

has enormous influence among her fans.

She already supported Biden in the last US election and is calling on people to vote this time too.

Conspiracy theories about the 34-year-old are now circulating in right-wing circles, saying: The Democrats are hoping for a huge fan base - and Taylor Swift is spreading panic among Trump and his Republicans.

US election: Joe Biden calls possible “collaboration” with Taylor Swift “secret”

“Did you, or did you not, plot with Miss Swift?” Meyers asked the 81-year-old Biden.

“How do you know that, it’s secret,” he replied.

When asked whether Swift would support him this year, Biden replied with a laugh: "As I said, that's secret."

A rather clumsy answer.

Biden is criticized by his opponents as the most media-shy US president of the modern era.

If the nonpartisan White House Transition Project counted correctly, this was his 87th interview.

For comparison: Donald Trump had already given 300 interviews at this point in his term in office.

Can the “Swifties”, the fans of Taylor Swift, really put US President Joe Biden back into office?

Taylor Swift criticizes “Trump in a wig” during the 2018 election campaign

Already in 2018, Swift, who  was named

Time magazine's

Person of the Year in 2023, caused a particular stir among Trump fans.

At that time she took a political stand for the first time, opposing the ultra-radical Republican candidate for the US Senate, Marsha Blackburn, and describing her as “Trump in a wig”.

The ubiquity of Taylor Swift is now even a concern for scientists, observed the

Frankfurter Rundschau

.

The catchy name for it: Taylor Studies.

But aren't they perhaps done more for fun?

Not clear.

After all, a Monmouth University survey published this month found that 18 percent of Americans actually believe in a Taylor Swift conspiracy regarding the 2024 US election.

Comment on the US election: Biden cannot rely on Taylor Swift

The left-liberal Danish daily

Information

recently commented on Europe's security with Trump as a possible US president.

Europe cannot rely on around 50,000 votes from swing voters, the newspaper said, referring to the singer.

Experience has shown that a few thousand votes in the so-called swing states can decide close US elections.

"The hope that a last-minute recommendation from pop star Taylor Swift will ensure 'four more years' for the pro-Atlantic Joe Biden is not a strategy or a foundation on which to build Europe's security structure," the newspaper said.

So even with possible help from the “Swifties” (Taylor’s fans), Biden still has to deliver.
