Voting for the first round of the Chadian presidential election will take place on May 6, the National Election Management Agency (ANGE) announced Tuesday during a press conference.
This election will mark the end of the transition and the mandate of Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, appointed at the head of a junta of 15 generals after the death of his father Idriss Déby Itno, mortally wounded by rebels at the front in 2021. Immediately, he had promised to return power to civilians by organizing elections 18 months later, a deadline ultimately postponed by two years.
