The Weilheim state building authority currently has to radically clear trees and bushes on numerous federal roads in the district.
The reason: The safety of road users is at risk.
There is a lot of dissatisfaction among some citizens.
District – Peter Simon is horrified.
When he recently drove from Oberau towards Farchant, he saw that the small biotope at the so-called Steinernen Brückerl on the Ronetsbach had disappeared.
“Everything was radically cut off here,” he criticizes.
Even the tree stumps were milled out.
“It’s crazy,” complains the district resident.
The animals have now been deprived of any protection on the local road, the B2 between the Oberau and Farchanter tunnels.
Not only trees, but also all vegetation was removed on both sides of the street.
Clearing work on roads and railway tracks can currently be seen throughout the entire district, from Mittenwald to Bad Bayersoien (we reported).
For the Weilheim State Building Authority, which commissioned most of the actions, it was anything but a joyful venture of jokes and foolishness.
The authority makes it clear that it is about safety and human life.
And unfortunately there is no choice but to clear-cut the traffic arteries.
Radical cuts: Citizens are angry
Danger was imminent at the Ronetsbach biotope on federal highway 2.
“A few trees have already fallen in this area, so we had to take care of them promptly,” said authority spokesman Michael Meister.
As little lumberjacks, beavers also nibbled on several logs, which now threatened to fall not only onto the road, but also onto the train tracks.
“Road safety was immediately threatened,” says Meister.
In addition, visibility for car and truck drivers was poor due to trees and bushes.
This also affected people's safety.
However, the building authority is always in close contact with the district office's lower nature conservation authority in order to be able to offer the local wildlife, especially the amphibians, a good habitat despite everything.
But there is nothing better than protecting road users - if a tree were to actually fall on the rail or road and, in the worst case, cause a fatal accident, there would also be great screaming and calls for someone to blame.
The authority also wants to use these measures to protect itself.
Construction work is imminent between Grainau and Griesen
The clearing at the Steinernen Brückerl is not the only measure currently underway.
Trees were also recently felled between Grainau and Griesen for “upcoming construction work” in the spring of this year.
“A communication with all the central facts will be published in advance,” assures Meister.
The population should be provided with timely information.
Tree inspectors also discovered enormous damage to the trunks on Federal Highway 2 between Mittenwald and Scharnitz.
These also threatened to fall onto the street or onto the railway tracks next to it, which is why removal was unavoidable there too.
