A 68-year-old man, prosecuted for having physically assaulted a doctor from Audincourt (Doubs), was sentenced Tuesday to complete a citizenship internship by the Montbéliard criminal court, a sentence considered light by colleagues of the practitioner.
On January 30, the septuagenarian accompanied his daughter-in-law and grandson to a medical appointment, when he attacked the general practitioner who refused to see him late, pushing him to the ground.
These facts occurred in front of witnesses and resulted in total incapacity for work for 7 days for the attending physician.
The defendant denies the facts and assures that he did not attack the doctor.
Weeping with tears during part of the trial, he was moved between two sobs:
“All that for a little injection that would have taken two minutes”
.
The prosecutor had requested four months in prison with suspended sentences
The public prosecutor, Paul-Édouard Lallois, had requested a four-month suspended prison sentence.
“There is no question that this gentleman serves as an example (...) But it is not acceptable that we get used to all the little violence of daily life nor that we find it normal »
he insisted.
The defendant's lawyer, Me Rosa Kupper, declared
"to have the impression that, on the contrary, we want to make an example of this man"
.
In addition to the citizenship course, the sixty-year-old was declared ineligible for two years and must not approach the medical office during the same period.
The doctor was attacked twice in two years
Surrounded by around twenty doctors in white coats who came to support him, the victim, Dr. Baris Cecen lowered his head.

In two years in this town, the doctor was attacked twice, and his secretary once as well.
“This judgment is a bad example.
It shows that you can attack a doctor with complete impunity.
“One of us will have to be stabbed or killed for things to change
,” he commented, very disappointed with the outcome of the trial.
The mayor of Audincourt and former senator (PS) Martial Bourquin told AFP he found the judgment
“very lenient”
.
“A more exemplary sentence would have been necessary
,” he said.
“An internship is really not much.
If we continue not to take into account this violence towards healthcare workers, we risk regretting it dearly.”
Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced the same day, January 30, his desire to
“pay”
patients who do not honor their appointment.
