“School is not only a place for learning, but also for living”: Gisela Leitsch, head of the Fraunberg primary school, is making a claim that must also be financed.

Among other things, the school's support association, founded in January 2018, is taking care of this and has now met for its fifth annual general meeting.

Maria Thalheim – Leitsch is also second chairwoman there and was re-elected, as was Kai von Fraunberg, the club chairman.

The young club has 64 members, as von Fraunberg mentioned in his annual balance sheet.

But he would like to see even more active support, especially from the parents of the first two grades.

“Is an annual fee of 25 euros too much?” he asked the room, but in return he also thanked the donations from numerous patrons who support the association.

Leitsch reported on what the money was used for: learning materials were purchased for refugee children in the community, a kiln for the Maria Thalheim school, and a trip to the Poing wildlife park was also financed.

“We had the bird song impersonator Helmut Wolfertstetter with us and organized a participatory musical with Toni Tanner and 230 children in our gym, which was very well received,” said the principal.

And a floor-to-ceiling wooden playhouse, financed by the community, was built in a jungle landscape - which has long been the favorite place of many children.

Secretary Anja von Fraunberg added that equipment was purchased for the playhouse as well as a so-called Bookii special pen.

All of this requires money, which is managed by Treasurer Jennifer Georgakos.

Last year, around 8,300 euros (including 5,150 euros in donations) came into the cash register, expenses amounted to 5,240 euros, and the cash balance is 5,600 euros.

After auditor Julia Kaut confirmed clean financial management, Mayor Hans Wiesmaier was able to take over the election to the board, which was due after three years.

With the exception of the resigned auditor Nicole Floßmann and assessor Gisela Liebl, all positions remained the same; assessor Evi Betz and Nicole Selmeier were newly elected as auditor.

With a view to 2024, Leitsch announced that, in addition to the equipment for the playhouse, a visit by the third and fourth graders to the Erding Museum is planned, as well as a drum workshop for teachers in cooperation with the district music school.

“There are many challenges at our school that we as a community cannot tackle all on our own,” said Wiesmaier.

Coping with the future of the school is a big task, “but one that can only be developed with everyone’s passion.”

It is important to learn to appreciate the smallness of an organization and not just rely on the state.
