Should we be happy about it?
Last year, natural gas consumption fell by 11.4% compared to 2022. It even plunged by 20% in two years, marking a real break in the trend.
We have to go back to the 1990s to find such a low level, i.e. 381 TWh.
In comparison, electricity consumption fell “only” by 3.2% in twelve months, to stand at 445 TWh.
This decline in gas could be excellent news, a symbol of the electrification of our economy, of its ability to do without CO2-emitting energies, and more broadly, of the energy transition.
