The Halle attacker will be held in a prison in Thuringia.

The Saxony-Anhalt prison system carried out a security transfer of the 32-year-old prisoner on Tuesday, the Ministry of Justice in Magdeburg announced.

The special unit of the Saxony-Anhalt correctional system brought the man to the Tonna correctional facility in the Gotha district.

Magdeburg - Immediately before, Stephan Balliet was sentenced to seven years in prison in Magdeburg for taking hostages in Burg Prison in December 2022.

He was sentenced to the maximum sentence in 2020 for the racist and anti-Semitic attack in Halle.

Balliet is considered a safety risk to himself and others.

After the hostage-taking in Burg, he was imprisoned in the Augsburg JVA in Bavaria and in the Wolfenbüttel JVA in Lower Saxony.

During the trial, the 32-year-old was housed in the Raßnitz youth center in southern Saxony-Anhalt.
