The pro-Iranian Islamist organization responded this Tuesday morning to Israeli air strikes on eastern Lebanon.


Hezbollah announced on Tuesday that it had launched, for the second consecutive day, a new salvo of rockets against an Israeli military base in response to Israeli air strikes the day before on eastern Lebanon.

Israel announced on Monday that it had targeted Hezbollah positions in Baalbeck (east), for the first time since the start of the war in Gaza, killing two fighters.

In a statement Tuesday morning, Hezbollah claimed to have

“targeted the Meron air control base”

in northern Israel

“using a large salvo of rockets”

.

He affirmed that this operation took place

“in response to the Israeli aggression on the outskirts of Baalbeck”

.

The powerful pro-Iranian Islamist group had already announced Monday evening that it had fired 60 rockets at an Israeli army base on the occupied Golan Heights in retaliation for Israeli raids.

Hezbollah stronghold

The Baalbeck region, in the Bekaa plain bordering Syria, is a stronghold of Hezbollah which has a significant military presence there.

Since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7 between Israel and Hamas, Islamist Hezbollah has targeted Israeli military positions on a daily basis, in support of its Palestinian ally.

Israel carries out strikes on border villages and targeted operations against Hezbollah officials.

At least 284 people, most of them fighters from Hezbollah and allied groups, and around 44 civilians, have been killed in more than four months, according to an AFP count.

On the Israeli side, ten soldiers and six civilians were killed, according to the army.
