Highlights: Hochbahn expects a standstill due to the Verdi warning strike. Verdi has called on employees in the ongoing collective bargaining disputes to go on a 48-hour warning strike, which is scheduled to begin at 3 a.m. on Thursday. The background for the foreseeable standstill on road and rail is that planning and safety have top priority. “If passengers set off with the prospect of an emergency timetable and crowd into overcrowded vehicles or onto platforms, this would pose a high safety risk”

During the warning strike at the beginning of February, they left it at a 24-hour strike.

Now the employees of the Hochbahn and the Hamburg-Holstein transport company are supposed to stop work for 48 hours.

Hamburg - The upcoming warning strike by the Verdi union at the Hamburg transport companies Hochbahn and VHH is expected to cause a complete standstill in subway and bus traffic in the Hanseatic city for two days.

As things stand, both companies “assume that they will not be able to start operations once the strike begins,” according to a joint statement on Tuesday.

Verdi has called on employees in the ongoing collective bargaining disputes at Hochbahn and Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH) to go on a 48-hour warning strike, which is scheduled to begin at 3 a.m. on Thursday.

“The extent to which operational services are possible during the strike will be decided by the companies depending on the situation,” the statement says.

“With the end of the strike, which Verdi announced for Saturday, March 2nd at 3 a.m., operations should start again as planned.” According to Hochbahn and VHH, the background for the foreseeable standstill on road and rail is that planning and safety have top priority .

“If passengers set off with the prospect of an emergency timetable and crowd into overcrowded vehicles or onto platforms, this would pose a high safety risk.”

The S-Bahn, which, as a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, is subject to its collective agreements, is not affected by the warning strike.

According to Hochbahn, the Hadag ferries are also not affected.

The background to the new warning strike is collective bargaining for the approximately 8,000 employees at Hochbahn and VHH, which are primarily about better working conditions and relief for employees.

At the beginning of February there was already a 24-hour warning strike there, which brought almost all bus and subway traffic to a standstill.

An in-house collective agreement applies to both transport companies.

According to the company, new negotiations are scheduled for March 5th at VHH and March 7th at Hochbahn.
