Many assignments and a subtenant

Highlights: Many assignments and a subtenant. The youth group now includes almost 50 children and young people between the ages of eight and 16. The most unusual operation was a nighttime alarm at the request of the police to search for a murder weapon in front of the lake promenade. A family of beavers had already established themselves under the station the previous year and clearly enjoyed the protection of the building. The animals could regularly be observed lying relaxed in their beaver castle right next to the emergency boats and playing in the water.

Starnberg water rescue service takes stock.

The youth now has around 50 members.

Starnberg

– Annual general meetings are usually dominated by statistics, including at the BRK water rescue service.

However, the meeting of the Starnberg local group at the weekend was an exception: a supporting member received great applause because he spontaneously donated 1,000 euros for the youth and another four-figure amount for the local group.

And: The deputy chairman Sebastian Thallmair reported about a subtenant at the station in the Percha/Kempfenhausen bathing area.

In 2023 there were a number of capsized boats to salvage, several swimming events to secure and typical first aid operations to be carried out.

Several searches for missing persons were also recorded in last year's operational diary, as the water rescue service announced.

The most unusual operation was a nighttime alarm at the request of the police to search for a murder weapon in front of the lake promenade.

Last year's storms also resulted in a number of missions, including providing supplies to those seeking relaxation on the lake promenade after a tree branch fell on them, but also a cabin sailing boat that was so firmly grounded that it could only be rescued with the help of divers could be towed free by three emergency boats.

This was probably the longest operation of the year, lasting from midday until after 9 p.m., said Thallmair.

Positive numbers: Several members completed training to become water rescuers and three to become boat captains.

The youth group now includes almost 50 children and young people between the ages of eight and 16, which could lead to space problems in the swimming pool.

One of the young people is 15-year-old Konstantin Jauch, who almost routinely reported on the activities of the Starnberg Water Rescue Youth last year.

He gave a special thank you to the two youth leaders Julia Volks and Sarah Schweighofer, who not only constantly look after the youth group, but also organize the swimming courses.

Last year, 90 “seahorses” were awarded – also with the support of the local youth group.

District Administrator Stefan Frey emphasized how important volunteer work on Lake Starnberg is, as did Vice Mayor Angelika Kammerl.

The chairman of the BRK district association in Starnberg, Michael Kuffer, thanked the water watchmen for their tireless efforts.

The thanks were concluded by the chairman of the Starnberg district water rescue service, Markus Schmolz.

And what about the subtenant?

According to Thallmair, a family of beavers had already established themselves under the station the previous year and clearly enjoyed the protection of the building.

The animals could regularly be observed lying relaxed in their beaver castle right next to the emergency boats and playing in the water.

This was a fascinating sight, especially for the youth, but also for the other members.

However, due to the now significantly higher water level in Lake Starnberg, the beavers have now looked for another home.

There were also honors.

Nico Bucher and Anna Schianchi were honored for five years of membership, Daniela Pilgram for 15, Julia Volks for 25 years and Harald Schwämmlein for 30 years.

Jan Schreiber has been there for 40 years and Reinhard Bucher for the proud 55 years.

The Wasserwacht Medal in bronze was awarded to Alexander Fertig for special services to the BRK.
