The final adoption on Tuesday by MEPs of the famous regulation on
“the restoration of nature”
, despite final attempts at sabotage, risks fueling the anger of farmers.
The text requires Member States to restore a certain area of agricultural, marine or forest ecosystems by 2030.
The Chamber was extremely divided, validating the agreement reached in mid-November between the negotiators of Parliament and the Member States by 329 votes against 274 and 24 abstentions.
Elected officials, like Pascal Canfin, the head of the environment committee of the European Parliament, nevertheless wanted to see in this epilogue the return of a new rationality within political groups, including within the European right, part of which defended the regulation.
The European right has once again tried, in recent hours, with the conservatives and reformists of the ECR and the far right, to block the text or postpone it indefinitely, as it succeeded on the regulation of pesticides
