Sun, temperatures and early bloomers speak for themselves: spring is just around the corner.
But what exactly can be done in the garden from meteorological spring?
Spring is eagerly awaited by most people every year.
But when exactly does it start?
When the first early bloomers make their way through the earth, or when the temperatures rise?
In terms of the calendar, spring starts this year on March 20, 2024. This date depends on the position of the sun.
But from a meteorological point of view, spring begins on March 1st.
How does this discrepancy come about?

Spring runs from March to May, summer from June to August, autumn from September to November and winter from December to February.
According to MDR,
this somewhat simplified classification goes
back to the World Meteorological Organization.
This makes climatological statistics easier to create and easier to compare, as the German Weather Service (DWD) further explains.
And things are looking increasingly friendly in the garden from March onwards.
This is what you can do in the garden from the first of March:
Now prepare the vegetable beds.
Remove an old layer of mulch from them.
These vegetables can be sown directly into the bed from March.
Balcony flowers also bloom magnificently in March.
Prefer sunflowers, carnations and marigolds now.
Spring is particularly problematic for fruit trees when it gets warm from March onwards, but then cools down again by Ice Saints.
This is where you should think about protection.
Some plants tolerate pruning particularly well now.
These include roses, herbs and berry bushes.
