On March 15, the famous law on the wearing of religious symbols at school will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
On this occasion, PS deputy Jérôme Guedj is launching an initiative which will not fail to spark debate: creating a “Defender of Secularism”, on the same model as the current Defender of Rights (position currently occupied by Claire Hédon).
The idea is to build an independent administrative authority, endowed with real powers and personnel.
She would be able to resolve complicated situations in the hospital, at the university, or in any public service.
It would be seized by ordinary citizens feeling wronged, businesses, associations, etc.
And would form a “unique place for manufacturing doctrine”, according to Jérôme Guedj.
