A ski resort in Bavaria is ending the season several weeks earlier than planned.

Toboggan runs in the Bavarian Forest also remain closed due to lack of snow.

Philippsreut - “Due to the current weather situation, we unfortunately have to end the ski season early.”

The Mitterdorf ski center announced this on its website.

All lifts and slopes in the ski center near Philippsreut (Freyung-Grafenau district) have been closed since Friday, February 23rd, as managing director Bernhard Hain told

Bavarian ski resort ends season due to lack of snow

The reason for the end of the season is that no snow is forecast for the next two weeks.

In addition, the temperatures are too high for artificial snowmaking.

This should only be used until the end of February anyway.

Originally the season should have continued until March 17th, Hain reported to

Skiing in the popular Bavarian ski area will soon no longer be possible - despite a major investment.

There are other plans for that.

Too little snow: ski area ends season - toboggan runs closed

There is also too little snow in other areas of the Bavarian Forest.

According to

BR,

skiing and tobogganing are no longer possible on Silberberg.

The Scherau and Hochzell toboggan runs are also closed, and the toboggan run from Großer Arber to Bodenmais is no longer possible.

“Due to the current weather situation, we unfortunately have to announce that the Arberkinderland will remain closed from February 23, 2024 until further notice,” it also says on the Großer Arber website.

However, the ski area on the Großer Arber is not completely closed; the gondola lift, eastern slope, northern slope and sunny slope were still open on the weekend (February 25/26).

The floodlit skiing on March 15th is also scheduled to take place - as of February 26th.
