An application dedicated to travel during the Olympics. “We will be the first metropolis to make the Games 100% accessible by public transport, and completely carbon-free. It has never been done. It never happened,” claimed Valérie Pécresse, president of the Ile-de-France region, on BFM Business.

Asked on Tuesday about public transport in the Ile-de-France region, the president of the Île-de-France region announced several innovations, notably

Look to what works internationally.

Taking the examples of cities such as Tokyo or London, the president (Free!) of the Île-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, revealed, this Tuesday, several future developments in the trains of the Paris metro.

On BFM Business, the elected official began her speech on the subject of Ile-de-France transport by recalling that Île-de-France had experienced a “huge crisis in public transport” because of a “shortage of drivers” .

If Valérie Pécresse believes that the SNCF and the RATP did not recruit enough for a time, the two public transport organizations have caught up, according to her.

“They are now training and recruiting,” assures the regional president.

I am very hopeful that by the end of March, transport will be back to normal.

» With developments.

Changes in Ile-de-France transport 🚅

"When there is passenger discomfort, you have to do like in Tokyo, you have to take the person out of the train. We have just had the validation of a protocol, so we will not stop the oars"

“We made decisions that I had been waiting for years,” she continues.

On travel discomfort, for example, we have an absurd doctrine which is not that of London or Tokyo.

When someone faints in the metro, instead of taking them out of the train to make them breathe, we treat them as if they had suffered a shock from a road accident, we put them in PLS in the oar and we stop the oar while waiting for help to arrive.

This is the opposite of what is done elsewhere.

To overcome this problem causing significant delays, Valérie Pécresse announced that she had “finally” validated a “Samu protocol”.

“For those with travel discomfort, we will no longer stop the metro trains,” declared the president of Île-de-France.

Canine brigades and AI facing suspicious packages

Likewise, in order to streamline traffic in the event of a suspicious package, Valérie Pécresse is keen to draw inspiration from abroad: “In many countries, we take them out of the train and place them on the platform”.

France is currently under the Vigipirate plan "reinforced security - risk of attack", this measure is therefore not applicable to the Paris metro.

However, the regional president puts forward another option: “We will set up dog brigades to sniff the packages and, in 10-15 minutes, remove doubt and be able to take them out.

» A system which has, however, existed since 2021 and the deployment of around twenty dog teams on the RATP network.

Valérie Pécresse also wishes to rely on the latest technological progress by using artificial intelligence to “spot suspicious packages with cameras, in order to avoid blocking the trains for hours.

An application dedicated to travel during the Olympics

All of these devices could have their role to play during the Olympic and Paralympic Games next summer.

“For those who will go to the Olympics, we have been working on the transport plan for years.

We will be the first metropolis to make the Games 100% accessible by public transport, and completely carbon-free.

It never happened,” claimed Valérie Pécresse.

The Île-de-France region had already announced the creation of an application in March 2023, called “Transports publics Paris 2024”, which should make public transport traffic more fluid by indicating not the shortest route but the less crowded.

“There will be an operating procedure and a travel plan to follow.

Our special app will give you the best routes,” explains Valérie Pécresse.

The regional president also asks Waze and Google to “translate (the) travel plans” of Transports publics Paris 2024 into their apps. “The difference is that we will know what time the tests take place, she says.

It is better to walk 200m and not end up on a crowded platform.

»

The general director of IDFM (Île de France Mobilités), Laurent Probst, initially indicated in an interview with Ouest-France that if the giants of mobile navigation did not give in to this demand, the transport manager would ask the State to block these applications in the Paris region for the duration of the Olympics.

Travelers will still have to wait to find out what to expect.
