It is something unprecedented in the British royal family and attracted attention. The wife of the heir to the throne is recovering from abdominal surgery about which very little is known.

Prince

William

withdrew from a religious service on Tuesday due to a

"personal matter"

commemorating the death of his godfather, King Constantine of Greece.

Faced with widespread alarm about the true state of health of his sick wife and that she will not carry out any public activities until April, Kensington Palace confirmed that Princess Kate is "well."

Queen Camilla will lead the royal celebration at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle for the Thanksgiving service, held in honor of the late King Constantine of Greece.

The Prince of Wales was due to attend but withdrew due to a "personal matter".

He lives next door, in Adelaide Cottage, where his wife is recovering from an unspecified abdominal operation, along with his children.

It is

extremely unusual

for a

Royal

to withdraw from a ceremony, which has been organized for months down to the last detail.

But the palace did not choose transparency but rather “personal matters” to explain his absence.

Future queen Kate's illness is believed to be more serious than the palace is admitting

.

Prince Andrew, his ex-wife Sarah and daughters Beatrice and Eugenie were seen arriving at the Thanksgiving service.

The king was a close friend of Queen Elizabeth, had gone into exile in London after her overthrow and died last year.

The Prince of Wales called ahead to inform the Greek royal family that he could not attend the funeral due to a personal matter.

The late King Constantine of Greece, who died in January last year, was William's godfather.

William was due to give a reading this morning.

But instead, Prince Pavlos, son of King Constantine, will perform the honors.

Without details

Kensington Palace gave no further details but said Princess Kate, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, continues to do well.

The Princess of Wales, 42, is currently recovering at home following the procedure scheduled for January 16.

Kate spent

13 days recovering at the private clinic in London

before returning home.

She is unlikely to be seen performing frontline duties until after Easter.

But in a clear sign of her improvement, the princess joined William and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, on

a holiday trip

to the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Camilla will be joined in Windsor by Her Majesty Queen Anne Mary, former Queen of the Hellenes and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Pavlos, with members of the Greek Royal Family.

Queen Camilla was also scheduled to attend a reception with Greek royalty after the service.

Charles, 75, was in Windsor on Tuesday morning.

But he left before the ceremony began as he continues to battle cancer.

The king was close to his second cousin Constantine, who was the former monarch of Greece.

Her Majesty was recently diagnosed with cancer after the disease was detected during this prostate operation.

Today's service will be led by the Dean of Windsor, the Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, and will be attended by overseas Royal Families and other guests.

Constantine was a first cousin and sailing companion of the late Duke of Edinburgh.
