CSU boss Markus Söder is waiting for a “signal” from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the AfD case.

In his opinion, Alice Weidel is not really the leader of the party.

Munich – The future assessment of the AfD by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) is of central importance from the perspective of CSU boss Markus Söder.

“It would be a very important signal if the AfD was classified as a right-wing extremist,” said the Bavarian Prime Minister on Monday (February 26) after a meeting of the CSU executive board in Munich.

That would provide a basis for further questions and decisions and a clear signal to citizens.

“We feel that there is now a hidden war raging between Weidel and Höcke and in the end Höcke will win and Weidel will definitely lose,” said Söder, referring to the relationship between party leader Alice Weidel and the Thuringian AfD parliamentary group leader Björn Höcke.

Söder: “Höcke wants to have total power in the AfD”

Weidel constantly backs away and tries to cover this up with “some shrill rhetoric, as politicians often do.

When things are shaky, the rhetoric becomes louder and more aggressive,” said Söder.

This is a standard phenomenon, especially in extremist groups.

In reality, Björn Höcke is the actual boss of the AfD, “the godfather, the right-wing and right-wing extremist Don Corleone of the AfD, that is Höcke, he controls everything, he wants to have total power.”

Ultimately, the AfD is Höcke and Höcke is the AfD, emphasized Söder.

Therefore, it is only a small step to name the AfD as clearly right-wing extremist.

AfD observation: Markus Söder compares Björn Höcke with the mafia figure Don Corleone.

The Office for the Protection of the Constitution is working on a new report on the AfD

The

Süddeutsche Zeitung

had reported that a new report from the BfV on the AfD had already been largely completed.

In addition to the authority's already known assessment of racism and authoritarianism, the draft for the new report also contains a new point: “Relationship with Russia”.

When asked, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution itself emphasized that it did not want to make any statements about the reported facts.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified the AfD as a whole party as a suspected right-wing extremist case in March 2021 - an assessment that was confirmed in the first instance by the Cologne Administrative Court around a year later.

The AfD is defending itself legally.

The proceedings at the Higher Administrative Court in Münster are still ongoing.

There will be an oral hearing in mid-March.

In the case of a suspected case, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution usually checks after about two years whether the suspicion has been confirmed or not.

In the case of the AfD, however, it is to be expected that this decision will only be made after the court proceedings have been concluded.
