The fire department posted a picture of the creature and announced the background.
Venice – It is an extraordinary find that walkers made at the Lido di Venezia.
As the fire department announced on Facebook, the emergency services were called to the beach early on Saturday afternoon (February 24th).
There they saw a monstrous sight: the corpse of a two and a half meter long sunfish lay in the sand.
Fire brigade posts photo of huge deep-sea fish carcass that was stranded in Italy
The fire department also posted photos of the carcass of the giant sea creature on Facebook.
In two of the pictures, straps are placed around the fish's body, and traces in the sand also suggest that the animal was dragged further towards land.
Because of bad weather that was announced, they rescued the animal in consultation with the police, the fire department writes in its post.
However, there were no shortage of images during the largest search in Loch Ness in years.
Despite the impressive size of the animal that washed up in Italy, its counterparts can be significantly larger.
The largest sunfish ever weighed, discovered off the coast of an Azores island, weighed a whopping 2.7 tons - more than twice as much as the specimen on the Lido.
With an estimated weight of around a thousand kilograms, the sunfish from Venice is almost a lightweight in comparison.
A hunter recently killed a huge animal near Munich - after it had kept the foresters on their toes for months.
According to the fire department, the monster will be removed from the Lido di Venezia by a specialized company and made available to the University of Padua for research purposes.
Sunfish occasionally get lost in the North and Baltic Seas
There are three different species of sunfish: the sunfish (Mola mola), the giant sunfish (Mola alexandrini) and the slightly smaller sunfish sunfish (Mola tecta).
According to the German Marine Conservation Foundation, the animal feeds primarily on jellyfish.
In the fall, thousands of glowing jellyfish also appeared on a beach in Italy.

Sunfish are the largest bony fish in the world.
They are characterized by large eyes and a mouth that they cannot close completely.
They feel most comfortable in tropical and subtropical waters.
According to the Thünen Institute, it also happens that the animals are even driven into the North and Baltic Seas with the Gulf Stream.
