Meet Miri Lev, one of Israel's most famous doulas, and Natalie Eckstein, who left a high-tech job to develop pain relief products - the two who gave birth themselves are committed to improving the birth experience

Both are successful women, both are careerists, both started as employees, and at some point opened an independent business which they have been developing ever since, both only recently crossed the age of thirty, and both are mothers of children.

Miri Lev, who is currently considered the most professional authority in the doula world, and Natalie Eckstein, who started as an employee in the high-tech world, but at a certain moment made a turn and founded the company "Zirim".

Miri Lev began her journey as a certified nurse, and at some point entered the world of doulas.

She is married and defines herself as the mother of six children: three from her marriage, and three more from her husband's previous marriage.

With Eckstein, she is also married + 3, it came from a different direction.

She was employed in the high-tech world, but at a certain moment she made a turn and founded the "Zirim" company, which now exclusively markets the Elle Tens that relieves labor pains.

very much, why doula actually?

"At the age of 23 I was already a registered nurse, and just before I started the internship I married Yuval, a month later I was already pregnant. But I still had enough time for an internship in the delivery rooms. Something unexpected happened to me there. I started to feel as if I was splitting in two. I felt that I wanted to be in two places at the same time. I want to be with the mother, but I also want to be with the baby. In order to combine these two desires, I thought that maybe it would be best if I worked as a preterm nurse. But while working, a new understanding had already penetrated me: I still can't create the sequence and the therapeutic and supportive experience that I have in my head, in my dream and in my vision. I don't have a sequence. It's not enough for me to visit each one, to develop a relationship with the birth mother. I realized that it's not enough yet. That I'm not yet touching what I want to do Really. And that's the moment I decided to become a doula and accompany the woman through the whole process."

Natalie, you left a secure job in the high-tech world in favor of a self-employed business.

What made you make this choice?

"Yes, being independent and leaving the job I loved so much and being in high-tech was really not in my plans. Even when I opened "Zirim", I planned for it to be a small business on the side. But very quickly the company gained momentum, and simply grew. I realized that there was a full-time job here, And with a heavy heart I decided to leave high-tech. Today I run a successful enterprise and feel very fulfilled. My role today as founder and CEO requires me to use all my skills and abilities, and I feel that I am fully fulfilling myself.

To this whole story I came to the Elle Tens device after the birth of my partner, she told me that I had to take it for my birth as well but I was very skeptical and I did not believe that it could help as much as she described.

Finally I was convinced and indeed I was deceived.

The device was connected to me for 35 hours and just saved me!

Since then I've been doing everything so that more women know about him."

How does this connect with everyday life that includes raising small children?

"The schedules are one of the toughest things in this profession.

I'm on standby all the time" admits Miri "birth can happen at any moment.

There is an approximate date, but in practice it could happen at any moment, and I have to be ready all the time, even if it means leaving the children's birthdays or family events.

As soon as there is a birth, I leave everything, and go to the birth process, which is the best thing to be in."

You are also juggling raising three children, one of them a baby, and at the same time developing products.

it's not difficult?

"It's not easy, but it's also very satisfying! The knowledge that I go to bed every night knowing that on the one hand I'm a dedicated and present mother, and on the other hand I manage to run a successful business, and at the same time develop more and more initiatives, excites and satisfies me very much."

Natalie says, "In the mornings I get up after 3-4 hours of sleep, and in the first few minutes I don't know how I'm going to last the whole day, but I love what I do so much, and I have such an inner drive that pushes me forward, and after my morning coffee I'm already I don't feel the fatigue. My problem is that as soon as I have an idea (which happens quite a bit) the next morning there will already be a business plan, after two days there will already be a characterization, and within a week the idea will have skin and tendons. I don't know how to put things on hold. Basically, I take advantage Almost all hours of the day - active 18 hours a day."

Could it be that in the future pregnancy and childbirth will be pain-free and suffering-free experiences, and there will also be those who will remember them as pleasant experiences?

"The pain we feel in childbirth is the only pain in nature that is good pain, because it is pain that moves a woman towards a long-awaited moment. Pain is an inseparable part of childbirth and cannot be neutralized completely, but I believe that one should try to minimize the pain, especially if it involves natural and non-invasive aids The less the woman is in pain, the easier it will be for her to move, breathe and promote the birth in an optimal way, and this is definitely something that should be strived for. And this is exactly what "Zirim" does - we put the women and their pain in the center and it is a tool that provides an amazing solution to the needs of them during childbirth. There is no reason to suffer like this in 2024."

Compared to Natalie's focus, the role of Miri as a doula begins long before the birth - accompanying the pregnancy process, in the birth preparation course, in the preparation of the things before and after the birth for the mother and the baby.

"The birth is divided into two. The first stage is at home, in the stage when the water drops and the contractions begin, or something happens, and then the process is by telephone: yes to go to the hospital, no to go out, when to go out, when to guide the woman at home, when to turn on the TENS. The second, when we arrive at the hospital and enter the delivery room, I physically join her in the process, and I stay until she feels well and recovers."

We are in a difficult time with a very difficult war whose end is not seen yet.

How do you think it will affect the world of pregnancy and childbirth?

"Like after every war. There will be a crazy baby boom here. I can already see it. Women who got pregnant with the understanding that family is the most important thing and that this is what we have left, and that everything can end in an instant. So like after every war or hard winter - there will be a baby A boom that everyone is expecting."
