With mixed emotions, school students in Sderot came to a meeting to prepare for the return to school, which will resume next week. The parents tell of great fears about the return: "Every noise throws us back to what we went through." On the other hand, they share the desire to return to normalcy: "We want to believe that everyone will learn lessons and Sderot will be a safe place"

A fighter plane flying over Sderot jumped the parents and children who were standing near the entrance gate of the school.

Every noise of war makes them jump.

The parents and children arrived at the "Gil Rabin" school in the city this morning to participate in a preparatory meeting with the educational staff just before they return to it next week.

Eden Bohbot, mother of a student at the school, came to the preparation day to give the children a sense of security before the start of the school year.

"There is concern, of course, we went through a difficult period: the disconnection, the distance, the black day that passed through Sderot and left scars."

She shares, "We and the children did not believe that such a day would come, I have faith that everyone will learn the lessons so that Sderot will be a safe place."

Shushi Mizrahi Grameran and her daughter also came to the school, with mixed feelings: fear of the security situation versus the desire to return to normal.

"The security situation cannot be ignored. The routine is a welcome thing, but we are very afraid. We are afraid of gunfire. We came from home to school and heard airplanes, and we were a little frightened. Every noise throws us into it. The reality still exists, but only at home can the wound be healed."

The principal of the school, Eidit Dayan, welcomed the children at the entrance, smiling and trying to instill an atmosphere of security.

The children, she says, were very happy to go back and see their classmates: "There are concerns both in the educational team and in parents, which is natural. We give the teachers the tools to deal with the parents' concerns."

She adds, "We have experience from other rounds, and know how to allay concerns, and how to act if there are alarms. We will practice with the children every morning what to do when there is a red color. We are preparing all the educational teams."

Mary Davidov, mother of girls in school, returned to the city a month ago so that her children could get used to the house before returning to school: "We are excited to go back to school, the girls are waiting for it," she said.

"About a month ago, we returned to Sderot to give the children space and get used to the city again. It wasn't easy all this time. We don't leave the house, even to the playground, the girls are afraid to go out. Nevertheless, we decided to return to our house, and there is nothing like home, despite all the difficulty and fear - we Here. We were promised that there would be security by guards and soldiers, and that takes the pressure off a bit, but at the same time, everything we went through on October 7 is still on our minds."
