“The President of the Republic asked the government to make a declaration before Parliament in application of article 50-1 of the Constitution, relating to the bilateral security agreement concluded with Ukraine on February 16, 2024 and to the situation in Ukraine, followed by a debate and a vote,” announced the Élysée in a press release this Tuesday afternoon.
It is specified that “this agreement follows the declaration that France adopted, on July 12, 2023, with its G7 partners on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Vilnius”.
“It establishes our long-term support for Ukraine to defeat Russia’s war of aggression.
This is a collective approach, since in addition to the G7 countries, 25 other countries have also decided to conclude a similar agreement with Ukraine,” the press release added.
