It was supposed to be a fairytale exhibition, but now it has a bitter aftertaste: the son of the late “Cinderella” actress is suing the Free State of Saxony.
Moritzburg – The Christmas fairy tale “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” made the Czech actress Libuše Šafránková (†68) famous.
The classic film has been delighting young and old alike for over 50 years and has become indispensable, especially in winter.
Now the son of the late “Cinderella” actress is speaking out and is suing the state of Saxony.
Libuše Šafránková's son is suing Saxony over the special “Cinderella” exhibition
In November 2023, the Christmas classic “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” celebrated its 50th birthday.
In the same month, the winter exhibition on the cult film opened in Moritzburg Castle, where fans of the classic fairy tale could see the filming location, original costumes and multimedia productions.
But now the son of actress Libuše Šafránková is suing the German federal state for a special exhibition in which private photos of the late protagonist were allegedly shown.

According to
bild.de,
Josef Abrhám Jr. (46) is said to have filed a lawsuit in Prague.
“I demand that the operator of Moritzburg Castle be prohibited from using the image and name of Libuše Šafránková,” the plaintiff’s lawyer is said to have
told
bild.de.
The reason for the lawsuit is that not only recordings from the fairy tale film were shown in the exhibition, but also private recordings of the late actress as part of the special exhibition “Libuše - More than a Princess” - and the son would like to take action against this.
The special story of “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”
The Brothers Grimm's fairy tales are hard to beat in terms of romance and create a cozy atmosphere, especially at Christmas time.
The story of “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” is based on both the well-known story and the Czech fable “O Popelce”.
It slightly modifies the work by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, in which Cinderella meets a fairy, and, as the name suggests, adds three magical hazelnuts to the plot instead.
“Images all legally licensed”: Castle spokeswoman denies allegations
A spokeswoman for the organization “Schlösserland Sachsen” is said to have dismissed the allegations to
bild.de
: “The images shown in the special exhibition are all legally licensed.
To date, we have not heard anything about the lawsuit.
We don't know what's next."

Pavel Trávníček, who played the prince in the Christmas classic, still has a very deep connection to the fairy tale.
In 2017 he took on the role of the king for the theater production of “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”.
