Pflugdorf – A premiere that is worth seeing.
The first race weekend of the Supersport World Championship on Phillip Island, Australia, got off to a successful start for Pflugdorf driver Marcel Schrötter.
After he fought for a front row start in Superpole on Friday for Saturday's race, he was able to finish 3rd here.
On Sunday it was even enough for second place, which means second place in the overall ranking for the MV Agusta driver.
In significantly better conditions than on Friday, when gusts of wind and rain dominated training and the Superpole, Schrötter started from the front row, was in the leading group over the entire distance and ended up in 3rd place.
“I am of course happy to have finished the first race on the podium,” said Schrötter on Saturday.
However, he has more problems with the motorcycle compared to the training sessions, “I don’t feel so comfortable”.
In the next race he wants to try to get even more out of it.
Second race
On Sunday, Schrötter got off to a good start from the front row, but was unable to immediately attach himself to the rear wheel of Saturday's winner Yari Montella.
Only as the race progressed did Schrötter get stronger and steadily reduced the gap to the Italian to just a few tenths of a second.
In the last lap, the MV Agusta driver gave it his all again, but it wasn't quite enough to catch Montella to the finish line, which meant 2nd place.
“I’m super happy with this start to the championship,” said Schrötter.
“The hard work over the winter months is paying off.
Then we made the long journey here to Australia and achieved two podium places on the first weekend.
We can be a little proud of that.”
The next World Championship races will take place in a month at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.
