Mary Roos actually ended her music career in 2020 after 60 years.

Now the pop singer was a surprise guest on a TV show - and explained why she recorded one of her songs in the women's toilet.

Offenburg – On Saturday evening (February 24th), ZDF dedicated its own show to the pop star Roland Kaiser (71) to mark his 50th stage anniversary.

In the show hosted by Giovanni Zarrella (45), the who's who of the German pop scene was there to celebrate the musician.

There was also a surprise appearance by Mary Roos (75), who had actually already retired in 2020.

But Roos now made an exception for Roland Kaiser, because the two are not only long-time colleagues, but also close friends.

There was no singing performance from the 75-year-old.

Instead, she chatted out a few anecdotes on the couch.

Mary Roos reminisces with Thomas Anders and Roland Kaiser

Roos and Kaiser reminisced together with singer Thomas Anders (60) when it came to their respective beginnings in the hit business.

All three were signed to the record company Hansa for a while.

Thomas Anders reports how excited he was when he signed his first record deal with the company in 1982 at the age of 19.

Roland Kaiser had already been in the business for a few years at the time and had just reached number one in the charts with his hit “Santa Maria,” the Modern Talking singer remembers.

This conversation also brings back memories for Mary Roos.

A very special anecdote comes to mind for the 75-year-old: “I was also at the record company.

And we recorded a song in the ladies’ room because it sounded so nice,” she says.

"That's the truth."

Mary Roos recorded this hit in the toilet

It was the song “I'm strong, only with you” – Roos' German-language adaptation of the modern talking hit “You're My Heart, You're My Soul” from 1985. “Honestly?” reacts Thomas Anders, who sang the original, is surprised.

The German version was produced by his former singing partner Dieter Bohlen (70).

Roos appeared twice in the ZDF hit parade with the song.

She didn't make it into the charts with the song, but she did with numerous other hits, such as "Arizona Man" (1970) and "Only love lets us live" (1972).

Roos released her last studio album “Abenteuer Unvernunft” in 2018 – 50 years after the first.

A year later she announced that she wanted to retire from the stage.

In 2020 she said her final goodbye in an MDR broadcast.

Mary Roos also revealed incredible things about her good friend Roland Kaiser on the show.
