“What I am waiting for is justice.
And justice is not revenge,” confides Philippe Carbonel, Thomas’s father, in the hall of the courthouse of Pontoise (Val-d’Oise), where the trial of his son's alleged murderer.
Thomas, aged 23, succumbed to his injuries at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital (Paris 13th arrondissement), a month after being fatally injured by five stab wounds one evening in May 2020 in Sarcelles-Village.
His death caused a wave of emotion and indignation.
A white march brought together 300 people against a backdrop of anger against the alleged murderer, Akim T, convicted several times and who had just finished serving a sentence under an electronic bracelet.
The first morning of the hearing, before the Val-d'Oise Assize Court, was devoted to the personality of the accused.
“He is a repeat offender, a violent person who pretends to be a victim.
It’s difficult to hear,” adds the victim’s father.
