Schleswig-Holstein is planning a new emergency loan of more than 1.5 billion euros this year.
“The amount of the emergency loan shows what extraordinarily challenging times we live in,” said Finance Minister Monika Heinold (Greens) on Tuesday in Kiel.
The consequences of the corona pandemic, the high costs resulting from Russia's war of aggression on Ukraine and the storm surge on the Baltic Sea coast cannot be financed within the regular budget - therefore the debt options that the debt brake allows are being used.
Kiel - “At the same time, the state government is very aware that the crises have resulted in a fundamental change in the income and expenditure situation in Schleswig-Holstein,” Heinold continued.
The first savings are therefore included in the 2024 budget - more must follow in the 2025 budget.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the new debt increases by around 874 million euros to more than 1.6 billion euros and, in addition to the emergency loan, also includes the use of the debt permitted under the debt brake of around 133 million euros.
