A Miami-Dade woman was arrested for poisoning her boyfriend after he found a chlorine tablet in her cup of tea, police said.

Ivette Diaz, 49, was arrested Friday on charges of poisoning food or water, according to an arrest report.

The alleged incident occurred on February 20 when the couple, who have been living together for three years, were at their home on Southwest 158th Place.

According to the report, Díaz's boyfriend prepared lunch and poured himself some tea, then left to call his boss.

Upon returning, he offered Díaz some of his food, which she accepted, the report stated.

But when she exclaimed how spicy it was and he offered her his cup of tea, the woman flatly refused, authorities added.

However, after the groom took a deep drink from the cup, he immediately felt a severe burning in his throat;

He then noticed a strong smell of chlorine coming from the container and threw it into the sink

, police said.

He then looked in the cup and found traces of a concentrated bleach tablet that usually dissolves in five gallons of water, the report added.

“There is bleach in this drink!

"Did you put it in my drink?" he asked the woman, police said.

“I thought it was sugar

,” was the woman's response, according to the report.

The boyfriend was taken to Homestead Hospital for treatment.

The report noted that the sugar was powdered and kept in an upper kitchen cabinet, while the pills were under the sink.

Díaz was arrested and booked into jail.

Her attorney information was not immediately available.

Díaz's landlord told NBC Miami that he watched the police take her into custody.

“I don't know what happened to them because they seem like a beautiful and very happy couple,” said the landlord.

“When the police were here, he was taken to the hospital.

“She was in the patrol car for about 3-4 hours, they were waiting for a detective to come to the property.”
