Health insurance contributions increased in 2024, but for pensioners the increase will only come from March.

Then less pension will be transferred.

Berlin – As every year, the health insurance companies have adjusted their additional contributions in 2024.

Not all statutory health insurance companies have increased contributions - but many were forced to do so due to limited financial resources.

It is legally stipulated that pensioners only have to pay the new additional contribution two months later than all other insured persons.

The German pension insurance then transfers less pension than usual and sends the required contributions to the respective fund.

How much less pension can be expected from March 2024 depends on the respective fund.

List: These health insurance companies will be more expensive for pensioners from March

Special right of termination in the event of a premium increase

So what does this mean specifically for retirees?

For example, pensioners who are insured with IKK classic will have to spend 0.1 percent more on insurance from March.

With a monthly pension of 1000 euros, this means one euro less pension per month.

However, someone who is legally insured with Securvita health insurance would have to receive six euros less in their pension.

By the way: In the event of an increase, insured persons have a special right of termination.

This means that they can change their health insurance provider within one month of the increase being announced.

This also applies to pensioners.
