Update from February 27th, 6:20 a.m.:

In their actions against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, the US armed forces said they destroyed three remote-controlled boats, two anti-ship cruise missiles and a militia attack drone.

The attack drone was shot down over the Red Sea on Monday, the US military command Central Command, which is responsible for the region, said in the short message service X, formerly Twitter.

The remote-controlled boats and cruise missiles were destroyed before they could take off towards the Red Sea.

The US military said they posed an “acute threat” to merchant ships and US Navy ships in the region.

The destruction of the objects was therefore an act of self-defense.

In January, the Marlin Luanda was hit by a Houthi militia missile in the Gulf of Aden.

The Iran-backed Houthi militia has increased its attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since the war between Israel and the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas began in October.

This is why many shipping companies are now avoiding the important maritime trade route, through which twelve percent of global maritime trade is normally carried out.

The Palestinian government in the West Bank has submitted its resignation.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was informed of the resignation in writing.

The move comes “in connection with the aggression against the Gaza Strip and the escalation in the West Bank and Jerusalem.”

Palestinian President Abbas's Fatah Autonomy Authority, based in Ramallah, administers the occupied West Bank, while the radical Islamic group Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip after the 2006 Palestinian elections and subsequent armed clashes with Fatah.

An Air Force spokesman confirmed that the victim was an active-duty soldier.

The local police and secret service are investigating the incident.

Israel's military presents war cabinet plans ahead of Rafah offensive

First report from February 26th:

Tel Aviv - The Israeli military has presented its further operational plans to the war cabinet before the planned offensive in Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip.

As the Prime Minister's Office announced that night, the military had presented the cabinet with "a plan for the evacuation of the population from the combat areas in the Gaza Strip and the upcoming operational plan."

A plan to provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip "to prevent looting in the northern strip and other areas" was also approved, it said.

No details were given in the short statement.

Rafah, where 1.5 million Palestinians are sheltering from the fighting in other parts of the sealed-off coastal area in a confined space and under miserable conditions, was also not specifically mentioned in the statement.

Netanyahu sees “total victory” for Israel in Gaza war “within reach”

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has meanwhile predicted a victory over the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza war within weeks of the announced military offensive on Rafah beginning.

“Total victory” is within reach, Netanyahu said on the US television network

CBS

.

“Not in months, but in weeks, once we start the operation,” Netanyahu said on the TV show “Face the Nation.”

If an agreement on a ceasefire is initially reached, it will be delayed somewhat, but it will happen.

The planned offensive on the city of Rafah, which is overcrowded with refugees, has been heavily criticized internationally.

Even allies like the USA are calling on Israel to show restraint.

However, Netanyahu is determined to launch an offensive in Rafah.

The head of government repeatedly emphasized that it would be impossible to achieve his war goal of eliminating Hamas if four Hamas battalions remained in Rafah.
