It leaves the classrooms of the academy to enter the spaces of the future professional fields of graduates in Educational Sciences: this is the training proposal of Professor Elisabetta Musi, enthusiastically accepted by the students of the "Family Pedagogy" course of the three-year degree in Educational and Training Sciences of the campus of Piacenza of the Catholic University.

    You define it as a "situated University", Musi, that is, «located in the environments in which what is taught must be applied;

at the same time it is also a "de-situated" University experience because it takes place outside the classrooms in which lessons are normally held".

    "In the meeting with social workers, educational professionals, volunteers and users of services" continues Professor Musi "a learning community is created within which points of view, knowledge and skills are mixed and redefined, in which the different ages and experiences are put into dialogue. The University outside the university spaces is an opportunity for subjects with different roles to talk about each other, urged to highlight and problematize the pedagogical dimension of their actions, in order to better understand the world in which they live and to build together hypotheses of evolutionary change ".

    Theory remains essential, "but it is expressly aimed at verifying students' analytical and problem-solving abilities in unknown contexts, to learn to use the skills learned according to what the experience requires, generating original understandings and generalizing information that arises from comparison, from the debate".

    Thus, if the first semester took place within university classrooms and was dedicated to the theoretical foundations of Family pedagogy, the second semester will be dedicated to direct learning in contexts, and includes three training courses in as many significant social scenarios for support to the family, tested by critical experiences, to the identification of educational/re-educational and social promotion possibilities.

    Starting today, the students will be welcomed by the spaces and operators of a public service that welcomes new mothers, which has offered its availability to host, in addition to the students of the course, future mothers who participate in the birth preparation courses and some midwives from the clinic who lead the courses.

The second stop will be the Piacenza prison, where 4 meetings will be held with the inmates on the topics of parenting and emotional life.

Finally, in the "La casa di Iris" Hospice, the issues of suffering, separation, death and mourning will be addressed with operators, volunteers and patients' families.

    Each path consists of a series of 3-hour meetings in the service locations where we will discuss with the operators and the subjects who are experiencing them.
