Teachers and parent representatives and the town hall approved on December 19, 2023 the next consolidation of the Silvia-Monfort and Marcel-Pagnol elementary schools in Nogent-le-Rotrou (Eure-et-Loir), scheduled for September 2024. In a consultation, only 6 parents of Silvia-Monfort students voted “against”.
At Marcel Pagnol, there were 24 who disapproved of this measure.
This is the second time in two years that this Perche commune of 10,000 inhabitants, faced with the aging of its population, has had to redeploy its educational resources after the merger, in September 2022, of the Gaston-Coûté and Eugène-Mesquite schools.
The reason ?
The fall in the number of students.

The Silvia-Monfort school currently accommodates 78 students in four classes compared to 186 students at the dawn of the 2000s, while at Marcel Pagnol, more than 80 students disappeared over the same period.
This mother, who refuses to send her daughter to the private sector, recognizes that “this grouping is made under the seal of common sense.
I understood that this would at least avoid double or triple level classes.
We can hope for a new educational dynamic and greater resources for the good of children.
In the end, that’s all that matters.”
Harold Huwart, the mayor of Nogent-le-Rotrou (DVG), who gathered his municipal council on January 31 to ratify this decision, promised that there would be “5 simple level classes and a set of 8 teachers” on the Silvia-Monfort site.
This new grouping must, finally, promote social diversity, one of the national directives of the Ministry of Education.
The Marcel-Pagnol school was registered in the Ulis system (Localized units for educational inclusion) which educates students with disabilities.
