PARCOURSUP, THE FUTURE IS THEMSELVES (1/3) - In this first part, Nicolas, Mila, Fatima and Jeanne explain their tactics vis-à-vis Parcoursup.

Since the implementation of the

Parcoursup software

, the path to higher education has become more tactical.

A month before the closing of wishes for post-baccalaureate studies, four parent-child duos told Le

Figaro

how they envisage the future.

Desire to study for a long time or eager to finish high school, fear of a random algorithm or of taking the wrong path... with this series "Parcoursup: the future is theirs", Le

Figaro

follows four families along the selection steps:

  • From January 17 to March 14:

    registration of wishes

  • From March 14 to April 3:

    confirmation of wishes

  • From May 30 to July 12:

    main admission phase

Jeanne R., 17 years old: “I don’t want to study the same thing as in high school”

Béatrice would prefer that her daughter Jeanne aims for a prep school rather than a more expensive post-baccalaureate school.

Madeleine Meteyer

When Jeanne arrived in first grade, her mother, Béatrice, broke out in a cold sweat when she realized that some of her friends had, after second grade, removed their children from private establishments “

to put them back in their local public high school.

» A tactic used by parents who are wary of the algorithms of certain courses, universities in particular, known to take into account grades and less, or even not, the level of requirements of high schools.

In this little game, a cardboard 16 is better than a severe 13, however authentic it may be.

13 is Jeanne's average at Daniélou, a renowned private high school that only welcomes girls.

When Béatrice and her husband became aware of their “

lack of strategy

”, which implies that public establishments grade more widely, Béatrice suggested that Jeanne join her local high school in Suresnes.

But that didn’t happen, Jeanne had a good group of friends in Daniélou, she’s happy there.

» She looks at her daughter, as if to check.

Jeanne nods.

In this month of February 2024, the young girl approaches the Parcoursup procedure with the not so obvious hat to wear of the hardworking but average student.
