The Grafingen building committee discussed the SPD's proposals for accessibility and city beautification for a long time.

In the end, the Social Democrats were rejected with their ideas.

Grafing – Should you take the second step before the first when it comes to accessibility?

Does Grafing need its own footpath concept?

And: Should all the squares in the city be redesigned in the next seven years - for a total of a maximum of 700,000 euros?

The members of the building committee gave a clear answer to these questions on Tuesday evening.

And it was called “No”.

Two proposals from the SPD parliamentary group were rejected by the majority.

Long and intensive discussion about accessibility in the Grafingen building committee

After all, the concerns were discussed long and passionately.

“We are building this step by step in order to get through Grafing barrier-free,” said SPD city councilor Christian Kerschner, explaining his idea of how a barrier-free footpath concept could be beneficial for the city.

“Erding has a concept like that, I would actually like that too,” he said.

“Yes, it costs money, but it makes sense.”

The Grafinger Center already knows exactly what the problem is with accessibility.

Ottilie Eberl (Greens) recalled a walk with wheelchair users and people with disabilities that she initiated exactly a year ago: “I am more in favor of us finally implementing what we discovered.” Regina Offenwanger jumped in with her SPD -Group colleagues and said that the concept was about “bringing all the pieces of the puzzle together”.

Mayor Christian Bauer, however, criticized: “Another concept that costs money and ties up staff.”

SPD application for city beautification: Market square already enhanced with floral decorations

The majority in the building committee also did not follow the argument that a barrier-free footpath concept offers the possibility of “prioritizing” individual measures.

Only Kerschner, Offenwanger and FDP city councilor Claus Elm raised their hands for the SPD motion.

With that, he's off the table for now.

Accessibility in the marketplace, for example, has not yet been achieved.

The Grafinger center, however, is an example of how the city is sprucing itself up a bit.

“We tried to enhance the squares with floral decorations,” said Bauer in the discussion on the Social Democrats’ second proposal.

They had proposed redesigning one square in the city every year for the next seven years for a maximum of 100,000 euros each.

“We only have debts”: Some city councilors criticize the SPD’s proposal

That makes a total of 700,000 euros.

“We already know that this won’t be a dream concert in Grafing,” warned CSU councilor Josef Fritz against using so much money for design in the tense financial situation.

“We don’t need another list.

We should make sure we can deal with Öxinger Platz,” criticized Roswitha Singer (Greens).

There, on Rotter Strasse, the long-decided fountain is still missing.

CSU city councilor Max Graf von Rechberg once again came out on top, reminding us that the city now has to invest over two million euros in its water supply.

“We only have debts,” he said, although the SPD announced that it already had “a donor” on hand for the redesign of the first square who was prepared to contribute a considerable sum privately.

SPD flashes accessibility and city beautification in the building committee

“We certainly have 100,000 euros,” said SPD city councilor and applicant Christian Kerschner, promoting a “nice, clean thing.” Regina Offenwanger reported to the committee: “I am often told that in Grafing, the corners look like that neglected.” However, in the vote, only Kerschner, Offenwanger and FW city councilor Christian Einhellig raised their hands for the redesign of one square each year.

The application was therefore also rejected.
