Highlights: #MeToo in France: for Vincent Lindon, “we are still in the Stone Age”. The 64-year-old actor believes that the fight against sexist and sexual violence should not be the lot of women. “We will not be able to repair the world as long as it is made up of individuals who stand against each other,” warns the actor. Soon to appear in Nicolas Boukhrief's latest film, Comme un fils, Lindon spoke to Ouest France.

In an interview given to Ouest France for the release of his next film Comme un fils, the actor spoke about the sexual assault scandals which are shaking the world of cinema.

Soon to appear in Nicolas Boukhrief's latest film,

Comme un fils

, Vincent Lindon spoke in the columns of

Ouest France

.

Asked about the legal cases which are currently shaking the small world of French cinema, the actor regretted the status quo which followed the emergence of the #MeToo movement:

“I thought we had made progress and yet no, we are still in the Stone Age and far too far from gender equality.

I will always be on the side of the victims and I did not wait for #MeToo to think it and to say it

,” he says.

“Faced with the physical, sexual, psychological, verbal violence committed against them, no excuse, no reason is tolerable

,” insists the one who has nevertheless always refused to

“howl with the wolves”

and who prefers to speak

“after the time of reflection

.”

Vincent Lindon believes that the fight against sexist and sexual violence should not be the lot of women.

He urges men to act alongside them:

“This scourge must no longer be the only concern of women, we men must invite ourselves into the fight resolutely, without failing on such a long journey.

We must help them build their sovereignty and achieve perfect equality and never call it into question again.”

But the 64-year-old actor judges that society will not be able to move forward alone towards perfect equality without the assistance of the State, which must

"take the measure of this societal drama

", and its institutions, in order to

"entirely rethink the feminine"

.

He points out

“a justice system which is too slow to convict or exonerate”

,

“a police force which does not take complaints seriously enough”

and affirms that

“parents also have a vital role in protecting their adolescents”

.

According to him, the role of adults is

“to prevent themselves, to say no and to set barriers”

.

Vincent Lindon, who was educated by his mother

“in the cult of women”

, calls for nuance and calm in a society which seems to be devoid of them.

Despite the meager progress visible since the emergence of #MeToo, he maintains hope and dreams of

“something that re-educates everyone, including me, to rediscover the taste for coming together around a common project”.

“We will not be able to repair the world as long as it is made up of individuals who stand against each other

,” warns the actor.
