The contrast will inevitably be striking... 10 km from the Creusot industrial site (Saône-et-Loire) where Framatome, in its forge, shapes the components of new generation nuclear reactors, and in particular the EPR, a company dedicated to SMRs, nuclear microreactors, will emerge from the ground opposite the Creusot TGV station.
This is the site that the start-up Jimmy has chosen to manufacture and assemble nuclear microreactors: 100 million euros will be invested with 300 jobs created by 2028 and the release of the first SMR.
The name of the first client has not yet been revealed by Antoine Guyot and Mathilde Grivet, respectively CEO and general director of the young company cajoled by the State.
As part of France 2030, it will benefit from a record subsidy of 32 million euros.
20 to 30 units per year
These SMRs made in France will first be dedicated to companies that need to consume heat, such as in the food industry.
Nuclear microreactors will allow them to claim the use of carbon-free energy and break away from gas or oil and thermal generators.
“We will produce and assemble here 20 to 30 nuclear microreactors per year,” announces Antoine Guyot.
Three workshops will be built, including one for the preparation of fuels, with uranium powders, without any announced risk for the environment or for the populations, under the control of ASN, the Nuclear Safety Authority.
“We are in a national strategic sector,” notes David Marti, president of the Le Creusot – Montceau urban community.
On “a land of industry and the future”, adds Yves Séguy, the prefect of Saône-et-Loire.
