The police caught former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette in her apartment in the middle of Berlin.

Her two alleged accomplices are still on the run.

Berlin - For around 30 years she lived underground, took on a different identity and gave math tutoring. But on Monday (February 26th) Daniela Klette's escape from the police ended.

The former RAF member was arrested in her apartment in Berlin-Kreuzberg and then arrested.

According to current findings, she is said to have committed several crimes, especially with the two wanted accomplices, Ernst-Volker Staub (69) and Burkhard Garweg (55).

Two RAF terrorists on the run - search for Staub and Garweg

Shortly after the 65-year-old was arrested, the police announced that they had also arrested a male person in Berlin.

On Wednesday, however, it was said that this was not one of the wanted RAF terrorists.

The man was released again.

In mid-February, eyewitnesses also reported to the police a man at Wuppertal Central Station who they mistook for dust.

But this suspicion was not confirmed either.

The police are currently searching intensively for the former RAF terrorists Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub.

The search for dust and waste is therefore continuing at high speed, said Lower Saxony's LKA boss Friedo de Vries in a press conference.

We are also looking abroad.

According to the police, it is not certain whether the two accomplices are still in Germany.

Since 2020 they have also been on the so-called “Europes Most Wanted List”.

Staub and Garweg may also be armed, reports the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).

RAF trio were considered “highly dangerous” – the crimes

The RAF trio was classified as “highly dangerous” by the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office due to their unscrupulous behavior.

The police accuse Klette, Staub and Garweg of attempted murder and a series of serious robberies between 1999 and 2016.

They are said to have carried out an explosive attack on the Weiterstadt prison, which was under construction, in March 1993.

During a joint raid on a cash-in-transit truck in Duisburg in 1999, investigators discovered the DNA of all three RAF members for the first time.

Several robberies on shopping markets followed, and in 2016 they finally robbed another cash-in-transit truck with a bazooka and assault rifle and stole around 600,000 euros.

The images from a surveillance camera probably show the ex-RAF terrorists Burkhard Garweg (r) and Ernst-Volker-Staub, who tried in vain to rob a money delivery person in Hildesheim in 2016.

In 2023, the police were pursuing a hot lead in Hesse

Burdock, dust and Garweg are assigned to the so-called third RAF generation.

The journalist and RAF expert Stefan Aust said about this on Tuesday evening on

ZDF

-“heute-journal” that the second generation tried to free the first from prison.

“When that didn't work, there was the third generation, and they did one thing and they simply committed murder.

They just shot people or set traps for them.”

The two RAF terrorists and the female terrorist were never caught.

They went into hiding for decades - and according to the police, that's exactly why they needed the money for their underground life.

In 2023, investigators followed a hot lead in Hesse and Hamburg.

During searches of apartments in a hotel room, the police discovered letters from Garweg.

These are said to have proven that the now 55-year-old maintained “intensive contact” with his family.

New RAF search call yielded around 250 clues

On February 14th, the police launched

a new search call on the

ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY...unsolved” and published, among other things, surveillance footage of the two men.

According to LKA President de Vries, the broadcast brought around 250 new clues.

However, the arrest was not based on the search call in the program.

Several thousand tips have been processed in recent years.

Now the investigators hope to be able to convict Staub and Garweg after the first RAF manhunt success.
