Unterallgäu - This year's annual meeting of the Bavarian Farmers' Association, Unterallgäu District Association (BBV) was dominated by the recent “farmer protests” in Unterallgäu, Memmingen and Berlin.

In front of around 100 BBV members at the Mittelrieder Gasthof zur Sonne, a review of the rallies was taken, the situation in agriculture was examined and an open dialogue with the public was called for.

District chairman Martin Schorer said that the farmers' demonstrations on the streets or in the cities had led to the cancellation of the intended vehicle tax for farmers.

The protest march in Berlin on January 15th in particular was “a great success,” the 65-year-old added: “A lot has been achieved because we walked together.” He explained that the BBV should not disrupt society through demonstrations that last too long against himself and must wait for further political developments in the Bundesrat with regard to the Growth Opportunities Act, which is also intended to provide relief for German agriculture.

Irmgard Maier was pleased to note that the “farmer as a topic” had arrived in society since last January.

However, the district farmer from Oberrieden pointed out that the farms had to be run by young rural women during times of protests.

Then it would often be said: “Drive quickly, do it quickly!” However, she criticized, the rural women rarely had the necessary knowledge to run a farm.

District Administrator Eder: Enough is enough!

Managing director Helmut Mader referred to the Federal Council meeting on March 22nd, which is important for farmers.

The BBV hopes that this will improve the situation for Bavarian farmers.

These included, for example, waiving new requirements and confirming exemption from vehicle tax.

District Administrator Alex Eder emphasized that a lot of things in agriculture have been going wrong for a few years.

Many conversations with Lower Allgäu farmers in the past have shown him this.

And now it is important to find a way out of this protest;

The farmers' actions on January 8th were "very extreme," said Eder, probably alluding to the traffic obstructions and road closures at the time.

Open dialogue required

Stefan Bissinger emphasized that public relations work is very important for the Bavarian Farmers' Association.

The BBV district president for Swabia called on the association members to talk to their fellow citizens about agricultural practices and to ask the following questions, for example: “What happens when cattle are dehorned or tail docked?”, “What happens if this is not done This open type of communication also includes the website meine-bauern.de, which informs users about biodiversity, soils and water as well as climate protection.

The farmer from Ichenhausen also suggested getting daycare centers and schools to visit farms: “You have to get them excited about our work.”
