Highlights: Avalanche in Racines, at least one dead and two seriously injured. Three helicopters and search teams on site. Up to 60 cm of snow has fallen recently in Alto Adige. All three hikers had the ARVA, the electronic device for locating people under the snow, and were quickly identified and recovered. However, one was now dead, while the other two were taken to the Bolzano hospital in serious conditions. The avalanche fell in the Wumblsalm area, over a kilometer away from the ski lifts.

   An avalanche broke out in the afternoon in Racines di Dentro, in Alto Adige, engulfing three people.

The toll is one dead and two seriously injured.

The alarm was raised around 5pm. All three emergency helicopters that operate in Alto Adige, Pelikan 1, Pelikan 2 and Aiut Alpin Dolomites, went to the scene, with various rescue teams.

Three people were recovered from the snow masses: one died, one was transported to the Bolzano hospital in very serious conditions, however there is no information at the moment on the conditions of the third person.

Up to 60 cm of snow has fallen recently.


   The avalanche fell in the Wumblsalm area, a rather isolated area over a kilometer away from the ski lifts.

The men of the Cnsas mountain rescue, the Alpenverein and the Guardia di Finanza participated in the searches.
