The notification that

the Ayuso effect

extends to Europe reaches the Madrid Assembly on February 21.

“I inform you that the Hon.

Madam President of the Community of Madrid will not be able to attend the Plenary Session of the Assembly on March 7, 2024, because she is outside of Spain,” reads a document sent to Parliament that EL PAÍS accessed.

Thus, while the opposition supervises the autonomous government, its president will be in Bucharest (Romania), where the European PP holds its congress next week, as detailed in the baroness' team.

It's not just any thing.

First, because it arouses criticism from the opposition.

Second, because the government justifies that the president does not return in time to go to the plenary session on Thursday, despite the fact that her intervention is in principle on Wednesday, with some “institutional meetings” of which the nature or attendees are not specified because “the agenda is still It is closing.”

And third, because at the door of the European elections in June, Isabel Díaz Ayuso will intervene in a conclave in which none of the other ten presidents of the PP will be present, except for last-minute changes.

A showcase for her leadership.

“Ayuso should be in the Assembly on the eve of March 8, such an important day for Madrid women,” criticizes Manuela Bergerot, the leader of Más Madrid.

“Once again we see that, instead of focusing on Madrid, the president is trying to raise her profile further afield,” she says.

“That [Alberto Núñez] Feijóo has gained time with a good result for the PP in Galicia does not mean that he is free of Ayuso's national ambitions,” she concludes in reference to the absolute majority obtained in the last Galician elections by Alfonso Rueda .

A critical line that the leader of the PSOE, Juan Lobato, also maintains.

“There are people who understand absolute majorities as a prize that demands more transparency, more participation and more sensitivity, and there are people to whom the absolute majority goes to their heads,” describes the general secretary of the Madrid socialists.

“This is the case of Isabel Díaz Ayuso,” he emphasizes.

“Because of this rule of three, he may never return to any plenary session again, every Thursday there will be a PP event somewhere in the world,” he points out.

And he emphasizes: “What you should do is the opposite: be more aware of being accountable, and not going to party events around the world.”

In addition to her intervention, initially scheduled for the 6th, the regional president will also hold institutional meetings, which would justify her not being in Madrid for the plenary session on the 7th, according to her team.

“The agenda is still being closed,” they detail in the president's cabinet, without giving details about those appointments, or whether they will be with members of the Romanian government, headed by Klaus Iohannis, or with European authorities attending the EPP congress.

In any case, the call from the Madrid leader crowns her frenetic foreign agenda, which has seen her travel to the United States, Israel, England, Poland, France, Italy and Portugal since she came to power in August 2019.

Because Díaz Ayuso has been exporting Díaz Ayuso for four years, and investing time, energy and resources in becoming an international reference for liberalism: just as he has received two presidents of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso and Daniel Noboa, he did so with that of Colombia ( when he was Iván Duque);

He has met with the main ambassadors stationed in Spain (United States, Japan, United Kingdom, Italy, Israel...);

He has met with the head of government of Buenos Aires (Horacio Rodríguez Larreta), and the mayors of Lima (Jorge Muñoz Wells) or New York (Eric Adams);

and he has had a very intense travel schedule.

“Isabel Díaz Ayuso has been invited to participate in a debate of the committee of the regions of the European PP (EPP) together with prominent regional and local leaders from other member countries,” explains a spokesperson for the continental formation, without its Spanish brand giving your opinion on that choice.

“It will be a sample of the party's leadership at different levels throughout Europe,” he emphasizes about an intervention scheduled for one of the first two days of the event.

“The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will give a speech on the second day, along with other leaders of the EPP.”

Together with Díaz Ayuso, Emil Boc, mayor of Cluj-Napoca (Romania);

Rafal Trzaskowski, councilor of Warsaw (Poland);

Sven Schulze, Minister of the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt (Germany);

o Apostolos Tzitzikostas, governor of the region of Central Macedonia (Greece) and former president of the European committee of the regions.

A great showcase at the door of the European elections in June.
