When he joined the energy directorate of the European Commission, the very young engineer Samuel Furfari did not know that he would stay there for thirty-six years.
The rule of mobility between services was not yet in force.
He was thus able to see European energy policy change, for the worse.
Samuel Furfari has a comma mustache and a slight Belgian accent.
He is the son of immigrants who harvested oranges in Calabria, who came in the 1950s to work in the Belgian coal mines.
After his engineering studies, he was recruited to the Commission to start thinking about the post-oil era.
