Final practical test for participants in a course to train the first 10 "mulari", mule drivers, as part of the project "Collecting and transporting wood with mules or horses" in the area of Mount Catria, in the Marche region.
The initiative took place this morning, February 27, on the bed of the Bevano stream.
The same one that, during the flood of 15 September 2022, flooded causing enormous damage in the area, especially in the Municipality of Cantiano (Pesaro Urbino).
There were several reasons that pushed Coldiretti, the Catria Horse Breeders Association, the Agricultural University of the Population of Chiaserna and the University of the XII Original Families of Chiaserna to organize the course, as explained during a conference held in Cantiano last December in the presence of the president of the Chamber's Agriculture Commission Mirco Carloni .
The mule is an animal suitable for reaching the most inaccessible places, especially in mountainous areas, and for transporting the wood that is deposited in the riverbeds.
Thus, the rediscovery of old crafts linked to the mountains is combined with the need to develop sustainable models of environmental maintenance, but also with one of the possible strategies to encourage tourism and the repopulation of internal areas.
Future and tradition therefore in the wake of preventing hydrogeological risks.
