Although the national voting percentage was about 45% of those with the right to vote, the local elections in many authorities promised - and held.

A surprising and particularly close battle took place in Netanya, a historic transformation after 31 years happened in Holon and a second round took place at least in Haifa and Rehovot.

In Netanya, the eternal mayor Miriam Fierberg served continuously since 1998 and did not expect much opposition.

In the current elections, she encountered a surprise when she defeated Avi Selma, a member of the Netanya city council since 2018, by a margin of only 3.3% of the votes. Fierberg won 43.4% of the votes cast in Netanya, while Selma won 40.1%, during which she trailed or led by a small margin on less than one percent.

In Haifa they will go to a second round, when no candidate managed to reach 30% of the votes after a particularly stormy municipal election campaign.

Former mayor Yona Yahav led with 36.2% of the votes, when he will be faced by attorney David Etzioni, who won 21.9% of the vote. Yaakov Borovsky finished in third place, while the current mayor Einat Kalish-Rotem won only 4.5% of the votes and finished in sixth place among the candidates.

Gal won 37.9% of the votes, while Rosenshein stood at 43.3% at the end of the vote count.

Gal maintained a sporting spirit and congratulated Rosenshein on his Facebook account: "Ten years of action, of vision and service for all residents of Kiryat Ono are over," he wrote.
