There was controversy at the annual meeting of the carpenters' guild.

It was about the farmers' protests and the work of the national craft associations.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - What began quite harmoniously ended in a heated discussion: The most recent annual meeting of the carpenters' guild for the districts of Miesbach and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen was also about protest actions against the current situation of the craft and carpenters in particular.

To demonstrate with the farmers or not?

While some members wanted to join the farmers' protests, guild leader Josef Oswald preferred his own actions.

“Attaching ourselves to the farmers’ demonstration is the wrong place if we want to achieve something for ourselves,” he said.

“We have to do something together ourselves.” District master craftsman Martin Heimgreiter pointed out a serious difference in the professional groups: “Whether the farmer is at home in the winter or is protesting doesn’t really matter.

If we craftsmen protest, it will cost us a lot of money because everyone has employees that they have to pay." For this reason alone, Oswald fears that unity for protest actions will not be far off.

Inaction on the part of the craft associations is complained about

There was general criticism of the inaction of national craft associations.

Ultimately, guild master Oswald said: “We are in the guild so that we can preserve our beautiful craft against incompetent politicians from school dropouts and pencil sharpeners who have never worked properly.”

A slight improvement was registered in the figures on the training situation.

While there were only 26 new apprentices in 2023, this year there are 34 again. “That looks a little better, even if we are still a long way from the pre-Corona numbers,” said apprentice manager Martin Thrainer.

There are currently 28 carpenters in the second year of training and 46 trainees in the third – “the last strong year”.

Bus connections to the vocational school in Miesbach are “a catastrophe”

With an average grade of 4.0, the last written exam was extremely poor, while the practical one was still able to achieve 2.81.

In the 2023 journeyman's examination with 47 candidates, a grade average of 3.24 was achieved in theory, but in practice it was 2.57.

The best newcomer in the guild is Andreas Hubert, who completed his exam with 1.7.

Franz Schreyer passed the best practical exam with a grade of 1.4.

Max Grobauer won the “Good Form” competition.

Once again there were complaints that carpenter apprentices in Miesbach had to go to vocational school.

Some are convinced that the very poor public transport connections to the Tölzer Land are partly to blame for the fact that there are relatively few apprentices to be found.

Vocational school teacher Falk Schwab described the bus connection between Bad Tölz and Miesbach as “simply a catastrophe”.
