The EBW Freising and the Protestant parish of Erding invite you to a lecture on ideas against disinformation on Tuesday, March 5th in the Protestant community center in Erding.

Erding – At a time when we are overwhelmed by a flood of information every day, our society and our democracy are facing major challenges.

A key question we face is: How can we distinguish between truth and misinformation?

Is it even possible to draw clear boundaries, or are the boundaries between reality and fiction increasingly blurring?

The Evangelisches Bildungswerk (EBW) Freising and the Protestant parish of Erding want to take a closer look at how social media works and invite you to a lecture evening with Pauline Rothkegel on Tuesday, March 5th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Protestant community center in Erding on Friedrichstrasse 11.

What exactly are echo chambers, how do they influence us and what role do they play in our media consumption?

As we uncover the insidious mechanisms behind social media, we enter digital labyrinths where we can be trapped by echo chambers, manipulative bots and disinformation.

Will identity theft become commonplace in the future?

“Deep fakes” digitally distort our perception by imitating people’s voices, faces and bodies in videos and images.

Another issue that should be addressed is the deliberate manipulation of public opinion through false information.

The influence of lobby groups on science and research must not be ignored either.

Despite these challenges, we should not look to a bleak future: the aim of the lecture evening is to develop innovative solutions to combat misinformation and strengthen our democracy.

The event takes place on site and also via video.
