A greyhound bronze from the Art Deco era is causing enthusiasm at “Bares für Rares” despite its damage.
The expert estimate leaves both moderator Horst Lichter and the seller speechless.
Puhlheim - “The figure has been standing in the living room for 45 years, gathering dust,” reports Gerd Schmidt (74) from Darmstadt in Hesse in the ZDF program “Bares für Rares” on February 14th.
The pensioner brought a special bronze figure to the junk show - and would like to get rid of it.

At the expert table, moderator Horst Lichter and expert Detlev Kümmel marvel at the art object.
“It doesn’t shed and is perfect for allergy sufferers,” jokes Lichter.
Detlev Kümmel takes care of the figure and points out the signature on the plinth, i.e. the base.
“Warrior” is clearly visible here.
“The German artist is Wilhelm Krieger.
His strongest period was especially in the 1920s,” reports the expert.
You can tell that the figure comes from the 1920s, says Kümmel.
Because: “The clear, but partly angular lines can clearly be attributed to Art Deco,” says the expert.
However, the foundry stamp or date cannot be found on the bronze.
The base is made of marble.
The figure is in “passable condition,” says Kümmel.
However, there is damage to the greyhound's rear end.
“Something probably broke here,” believes the expert. “However, the place was professionally restored.
“But you couldn’t restore the old patina,” said Kümmel, whose colleague Wendela Horz recently spoke about private matters in a special “Cash for Rares” program.
The seller from Darmstadt says the desired price is around 2,000 euros.
And what does Kümmel say?
“We are dealing with a respected artist whose prices are rising.
“I estimate the bronze to be worth 3,000 to 3,500 euros due to the damage,” said the expert.
Horst Lichter and Gerd Schmidt are speechless, can hardly believe it - and fall into each other's arms.
“I thought, now comes 800 or 500 euros,” laughs Schmidt.
Without damage, the figure would have been valued at 4,000 to 5,000 euros.

“I’m happy for you,” Lichter says to the 74-year-old and hands him the dealer card.
Once in the dealer room, the dealers are also enthusiastic about the figure.
“I would have exactly the right desk where it would fit,” says Wolfgang Pauritsch.
The popular dealer Lisa Nüdling from Fulda was not there in this episode.
“Nice guy,” said dealer Steve Mandel and opened the negotiation with a bid of 400 euros.
The other dealers, like Fabian Kahl and Elke Velten, quickly get on board.
And the price goes up.
With a bid of 2,500 euros, the bronze ultimately went to Wolfgang Pauritsch.
This is less than expert Kümmel estimated, but more than the seller initially expected.
