The situation was reported by several callers who noticed heavy smoke in the area of a department store on Rotkreuzplatz.
The fire started in a snack shop, but the automatic sprinkler system was able to prevent the fire from spreading.
The Munich fire department was quickly on site and was able to extinguish the last flames with a hollow jet pipe.
The premises were inspected using a thermal imaging camera and the affected sales rooms were cleared of smoke using a high-performance fan.
For safety reasons, the department store was evacuated and Rotkreuzplatz was closed to traffic.
This led to disruptions in local transport.
