Formerly an air base, now missile defense?
The former Penzing airfield was assessed as suitable for stationing a radar device.

Penzing - It hasn't even been a week since the last meeting of the Penzing-Landsberg Innovation Campus Association, in which chairman Peter Hammer updated his committee on the current federal needs assessment of the Bundeswehr.
In contrast to previous tests, the air base near Penzing was favored by the Air Force.
For what use it was not yet clear at the meeting - the association has not yet received any information from the BImA (Federal Real Estate Agency) or the Bundeswehr.
Now there is a little more light in the darkness.
The former Penzing airfield was assessed as suitable for stationing an Arrow radar device.
This answer from a spokesman for the Air Force was not received by the chairman of the Hammer Association, but by the editorial team of the KREISBOTEN.
They had already asked the Bundeswehr last week whether more precise information could be provided regarding the required area or use at the air base.
The editorial team recently received the answer: “As part of the development of the capability for territorial missile defense, Germany is equipping the Arrow weapon system to protect the German population and the German national territory against threats from ballistic missiles,” said the spokesman in an email.
Territorial missile defense contributes to homeland security and is part of national security precautions.
“For this purpose, Arrow will be set up in several position areas spread across Germany and integrated into the national command structures as an interconnected system.” Due to extensive infrastructural requirements for the sensor location of the weapon system, the Federal Office for Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services of the Bundeswehr was asked by the Air Force Command , in an open-ended study, to identify locations for the sensors based on specified criteria and to make a recommendation for possible location, the spokesman continued.

“This confirms what I said at the meeting that the communication is disastrous,” says Peter Hammer when asked.
He has not yet received a response from the Air Force, even though he had already sent the request on February 21st, as he emphasized at last week's meeting.
That's why he doesn't want to comment on it yet until he has received an answer himself.
The following can be read about the Arrow missile defense system on the Bundeswehr website: “The Arrow Weapon System (AWS) developed by Israel and the USA uses the Arrow-3 guided missile to intercept ballistic missiles above the earth's atmosphere.
This means that territorial missile defense is also possible for Germany for the first time.” Due to the increasing threat from medium and long-range missiles, the federal government decided last autumn to procure the Israeli Arrow missile defense system as a system for the defense of long-range ballistic missiles.
“The first parts of the system are to be used by the Air Force from 2025.”

reports, three locations are planned in the Federal Republic for the installation of the missile defense system.
One of them is at the Holzdorf air base near Jessen in the Wittenberg district.
